This music star walked away from fame...literally

What do you do after reaching the top?

Most people would double down, chasing more fame, more money, more validation.

But not Mike Posner.

He had it all—the platinum records, the sold-out shows, the industry clout—but instead of staying in the game, he left it all behind to walk across America. Yes, on foot. Why? Because he realized success wasn’t what he thought it was.

Mike’s story isn’t just about reinvention—it’s about breaking free from the expectations society places on you and forging your own path.

The Hustle & The High Life

Before the world knew him, Mike Posner was grinding. While studying at Duke University, he made beats in his dorm room, uploaded mixtapes, and found an audience before streaming was even a thing. His big break came with Cooler Than Me, which catapulted him into overnight success. The fame hit fast. So did the pressure.

His next move? I Took a Pill in Ibiza—a song about the emptiness of fame disguised as a club banger. The irony? It became a massive hit, earning a Grammy nomination. The industry wanted more, but something inside him was shifting.

The Breaking Point

Despite the success, he felt hollow.

In 2017, his father passed away, shaking his world. The relentless pursuit of more—hits, deals, attention—suddenly felt meaningless. So instead of chasing another chart-topper, he did something no one expected:

🚶 He decided to walk across America.
From New Jersey to California, one step at a time.

Why Would Anyone Walk 2,851 Miles?

For Posner, it wasn’t about proving anything to the world. It was about proving something to himself. He wanted to strip life down to its core—no fame, no distractions, just the journey. Along the way, he was bitten by a rattlesnake, almost lost his leg, and still kept going.

His walk became more than a personal challenge.

It became a message:

  • Happiness isn’t found in achievements.

  • Growth happens when you challenge yourself.

  • Your path doesn’t have to make sense to others—only to you.

What’s Your Walk Across America?

Mike Posner didn’t just ditch fame—he walked toward purpose.

His next chapter? Climbing Mount Everest to raise money for Detriot Justice Center.

Maybe you’re not trekking across the country, but you are at a crossroads.

Maybe society tells you to play it safe, keep grinding, and never step off the hamster wheel.

But what if your most extraordinary life is waiting just outside your comfort zone?

Why the Mike Posner Deep Dive?

When I found out that Mike walked across America after his dad’s passing, I started following his non-Grammy-nominated life more closely.

And honestly? This version of Mike is doing more for humanity than the artist who had people tripping on drugs at his concerts.

One of my favorite podcast episodes of 2024 was Mike’s conversation on My First Million with Shaan Puri. If you haven’t heard it yet, I highly recommend it.

Discovering Inner Bloom

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon Mike’s free community, Inner Bloom.

Want to guess how many people are in there? 2,520.

People searching for happiness.
People searching for love.
People searching for community.

Every Thursday at 6 PM EST / 3 PM PST, Mike hosts live calls with his members. I decided to jump in.

It started with all of us dancing to one of his songs. Then, it shifted into guided meditation and deep teachings.

And honestly? With it landing right at 3 PM in my workday, it’s the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

Mike Poser embodies the Dodge the Norm brand. Especially after achieving everything he did and then “throwing it all away” to walk into his true purpose.

He didn’t throw anything away - He’s right where he needs to be.

Go challenge yourself, make a bold move and Dodge the Norm!
