💭 Things that made me…..

I made it halfway through this email and thought about deleting it. Nobody wants to read a depressing email. But this is my focus for May and it’s a part of the current chapter I’m on in my life. Thank you for letting me express myself weekly.

Masking

Nothing beats a good revelation in the middle of your therapy session.

The ah-ha moments that you end up thinking about for days or weeks.

That topic for me was a phrase called ‘Masking’

As an outgoing, enneagram 7 (The Enthusiast) and a Leo I found myself hiding behind my public persona.

Dancing on my social media and acting a fool when I was really going through it.

It was only until my therapist brought it up that it all made sense.

It’s not easy “being on” all of the time, especially when you’re not feeling yourself.

There were even times that I would go days or weeks without being active on social media.

And don’t get me wrong social media breaks are great for everyone.

But I now understand that when I’m not “creating” then I’m most likely in a “depressive” state.

When I feel my happiest and healthiest, ideas run through me like a raging river.

Funny video idea here. Great newsletter title there. Ideas galore.

When I’m not myself, I hate the thought of doing anything related to being creative.

But now I understand my emotions better and I’m learning a lot about myself.

I guess I should call that….growth?

🧠 Mental Health Heroes

Each week of May, I will be highlighting Mental Health Heroes that continue to support the Mental Health space with their efforts.

Brooks Bash: Entrepreneur & Running Badass - I met Brooks a few years ago at an event and he told me he was building his company, Earthy, a clean ingredient pre workout hot chocolate beverage (it’s delicious btw). We talk from time to time on social but last week he was featured in Men’s Health Magazine. He ran 100 marathons in 100 days to promote his business on social media but what transpired months later would be much harder of a challenge: Depression. Read the full article here.

James Durran: Boston Red Sox Outfielder - during the recent filming of the Netflix Show, Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox, Durran come out about his 2022 suicide attempt. Since the airing of the TV show, Samaritians Inc, a Boston based suicide and mental health organization said they received three times to normal amount of calls after the news broke. We’re all happy James is still here. Read the full story here.
